Personal History Born on a mining planet to two caring parents. Her father a local miner and her mother a geologist.

At the age of two, a twist of fate occurred in young the young girls life. Her fathers 'employers' with the aide of an experimentalist scientist miscalculated the amount of a 'experimental material' that was used to help blast the un-needed material out of the way. It caused a catastrophic explosion many people, including civilians. Eimi's mother, was one of those who sustained injuries so bad that she did not survive the night.

At the time they sent the small group of children whose parents had died to a orphange. Not knowing the young girls name, one of the survivors could only say that her father was Santiago and another that her mother was Eimi. So the orphanage called her Eimi Santiago.

Her life in the orphanage was not an easy road by the time she was seven Eimi had
been in more fights and had been sent to the proverbial principles office more then she wanted to count to. Most fights had to do with the fact that she was not completely human. Oh she looked mostly human but she had a nice set of pointed ears that said otherwise.

At around the age of 11, Eimi was transferred to another facility. At this time who she really was, who her parents were and her family came into being. They just placed the information into Eimi's file and never changed anything. Oh, they informed her but by then Eimi had been Eimi Santiago for far too long it no longer mattered to her.

With the new information she tried to process along with old emotions Eimi started to run away from it, wanting things she couldn't have and disliking the work, punishment and schoolwork she was required to do. Fighting continued.

It seemed like Eimi was constantly in trouble and yet she excelled at her grades/studies. Rather, Eimi didn't really study. She cheated or had one of those memories that once she read something she knew it. She was never caught and therefore they couldn't expel her on that. Eimi was a troubled child caught is a system that hindered her potential more then it helped her.

Most of her teachers and leaders at the orphanage tried to get her to conform and it was a hard long rocky road. They knew that the intelligent girl had potential if she would only learn to control her anger, and apply herself. One by one though they gave up on her.

Eimi gave up on them too. Hating life, hating school, hating people. She started to do drugs, anything she could get with stolen goods, then sold on the streets.

Insubordination of her teachers was still a weekly event. It became apparent that Eimi had an issue with authority. Not only of the teachers but local , law enforcement as well. This landed her in the brig on more then one occasion, nursing broken bones, swollen and black eyes/lips she would be given another chance and some sort of punishment. (After all what were they going to do with her? She kept coming to school (mostly to be fed. Survival instinct was rather strong within her.))The punishments which varied to extra assignments, to cleaning, fixing what she broke.

Eimi would leave the punishment about half way through if she could find a way out of it and run through the streets. Instead of the streets being a place of solitude and comfort she found herself running and hiding from gangs. Caught stealing, or protecting herself she was returned to the orphanage, often.

One would think that after the various bouts of broken bones, split lips and back eyes. she would have smarted up and stayed clear of fighting but, no. It became a challenge for her to go right back at it.

Only to fail again.

One of her instructors, one whom she actually seemed to pay the slightest attention to in class and whom she at least spoke to on occasion had her help cleaning out a storage room as some sort of appointed punishment but not by them and a key moment of change occurred during that time. A box of broken drones, robotic parts was inventoried but it simply appeared as junk to the instructor. It however peaked some spark of interest in Eimi who took it and over many months afterwards assembled many small robots and a drone. It changed her focus because she not only wanted them to be what she created she wanted them to be useful and move. A drone should fly, a robot with wheels, or legs in this case should roll or walk and her hobby of coding began. The teacher fed her information via an old tablet, helped as they could. Watched and waited.

After many months, a slight change continued within Eimi. She forgot about running away from school and fighting and used her energy to better herself. She started applying herself. Her grades didn't really improve but Eimi improved. Her self esteem improved. Her focus. She still got in trouble on occasion because she was the scapegoat. Always where fingers pointed first when something went wrong. Eimi would shrug and take the punishment, mostly thinking she still deserved it.

Eventually when she was able to. Eimi snuck aboard a cargo/transport ship that took her away from there. To pay off her transport, she had to work for them and she learned a small trade, it started in repairing various computer items. Her new 'family' taught her how to protect herself even more. Less broken bones, split lips.

The owner of the transport suggested she join Star Fleet. She kept it in mind and one day found herself sitting in a room with others taking the entrance test to star fleet academy.

The test challenged her in a new way. Still old habits died very hard Even during the test she had a disagreement with one of the other future cadets and ended up giving them a black eye. When accused of cheating.

With a deep sigh of regret she prepared to leave and go find work. Which she did and made arrangements to be there in a few days when the ship left.

The commander in charge of giving the exam, found Eimi. In one of those places that everyone goes to, when things fail. The local bar.

The commander bought her another drink with the acceptance that if she would hear them out then they would buy one more and leave. It would be listed in her record for any Counselor to review as needed because Eimi's rocky road with authority would not heal overnight.

"Ms. Santiago you passed the exam, but your conduct was extremely unbecoming of a Star Fleet Cadet. We will not hand out a punishment, persae at this time because when reviewing your record. They simply do not work. Only you can improve yourself, no one else. We would like to be apart of that change and see you change and become a better you. Come. The start date is less then one week from today. I will reserve your room, I will sponsor you, but you still have to do the work. Cheating is not acceptable." A hand held up as the commander continued "and before you tell me to go F&&& myself. no you did not cheat. But you have in the past, when you found it convenient for you to do so. Your record has proven evidence of such, over and over." The commander raised a hand to motion for another drink "I believe you have the capabilities to be a fine officer, one day. But you have to believe it too. My say so isn't enough. Prove those people in your past all wrong. So, bend your pride a little and come be a better you."

The Commander then stood and walked away. Eimi drank her drink and picked up the other and swallowed it without much thought. She had more after that. Got in a fight later and ended up in the brig, released the very day she was to start at the Academy. She stumbled out into the street with no place to go but there. Her so called lined up job had left without her, more then three days ago. Eimi did the only thing she could, she humbled herself, briefly, and went to the Academy.

It was rough there for her too. But most of the Cadets did not look down on her constantly and they didn't pick fights not of the usual kind anyway. Mostly challenges of the academic type.

During breaks Eimi would find herself in various forms of field work like an apprentice to one of the officers. It varied, from repair work in engineering, operations to chemicals, animal keeping, gardening in a hydroponics bay in science labs or on a colony or cleaning dirt off of relics of times past. Away on the colonies became her favorite part and Eimi found herself on the way to a new aspect of focus. Oh her robotic, coding/hack hobby was still there. But new ones took its place to become a more permenant focus. Science became Eimi's field of choice. Because it seemed so diverse to her.

Eimi of course broke a few rules along the way and still had issues on occasion with authority.

One where Acting Ensign, became Ensign after her first six months. Eimi liked the feel of the promotion and went to party with the others who had received their promotions only to end up in a fight and thrown into the local 'brig'. Her age old true colors had come through once more as she told her commanding officer to go F&&& themselves while still under the influence of whatever she had drunk, smoked or shot up with. She was demoted. Eimi was transferred because her department head was tired of dealing with her insubordination.

At her new assignment, New Hope Colony where she was given one chance to make a change, shape up or take the uniform off. Eimi sought the Counselors help and put a few things behind her and started to take each day as a new chance to help once more versus being the reason they had to have brigs.

Still tough inside, learned to hold her tongue at times. Still liked to do things she shouldn't yet the fights lessened and the trips to the brig became non-existent. A calmer, happier Eimi now lived to serve versus being served.

Ensign now once again she asked for a transfer to see space versus being on a planet side colony. While she loved it she knew there were other things to learn, explore.

Unknown to her were her transfer would take her, she was informed that she would join the crew of the USS Athena.
