Rules
The rules of the USS Athena are made up of two basic tenets, fun and respect. We all are responsible for making the sim fun for each other. (Otherwise, why play a game?) Posting and positive interactions make things fun. We all must treat each other well and with respect and follow the rules/guidelines of the game. We may have bad days and disagreements that make these hard, but we need to solve those issues in a positive manner. If we don’t, we can’t have fun. If you find it hard to resolve issues directly, the CO and XO can mediate.
We hope your time with the crew of the Athena, no matter how long it lasts, is fun and positive!
Game Rules & Notes
1. Have Fun! If you aren’t having fun, talk to me or the XO.
2. Be respectful and communicate positively with your fellow players!
3. Make a good, solid character. The more you put into your character, the more your history can help guide the activity of the sim and allow us to put the spotlight on your character.
4. Be true to your character. If you write your character as a dyed in the wool coward, don’t have them charging forth against the hoard of raging Klingons.
5. Be involved. Active sims are fun sims. Either be working on a joint post and responding to prompts within 72 hours or writing a post or log at least once every 2 weeks.
6. Life happens. If you are getting slammed one way or the other and can’t keep up, let us know. We can work things out.
7. The sim, although run by me, is also your sim. Give input, come up with plot ideas and share. We will work them in. Perhaps not right away, but we will work them in.
8. Actions have consequences. If you moon the President of the Federation, don’t expect a promotion anytime soon. If you save the President of the Federation from a fate worse than death, medals and future favors are in order.
9. No “god-moding”. Your character can’t be everywhere, know everything, do everything all the time.
10. Grammar and spell-check are your friend. Please use them as much as possible.
11. Write in third-person, past tense. “Joe charged the Klingon.” vs. “Joe charges the Klingon.”
12. Don't write actions/thoughts/etc of other player's characters/pnpc's.
13. Did I mention have fun?
Character Creation and Play
1. No El-Aurian, borg, android, or god-like characters. All others will be considered. Please make sure to have a solid concept and look over the site and current crew, before submitting a character. If you are making something that has only been seen once/mentioned once on a show or are making a new race, you must give a strong amount of detail.
2. Standard speech uses standard quotations. Thoughts use single quotations. Telepathic conversation is to be noted with double tilde ~~ instead of quotes.
PNPC’s
You can play up to 3 PNPC’s (A npc who shows up on a semi-regular basis. Think Lt. Barcley on TNG.) If you are a department head, you can make your own and give the go ahead to other individual’s to make PNPC’s in your department. Just make sure to run them by the CO & XO real quick so they know they are being worked in.
If you want to make a PNPC that is in a department you are not in charge of or someone not on the ship regularly, ask the department head of the department. If it is an external individual, talk to the Captain and XO.
If you are a new department head and taking over a department, the PNPC’s do come with the department and don’t just go away. Work with the players of the PNPC’s and talk about what’s been going on in the department.
General Posting Guidelines
This is the general posting style and guidelines for the USS Athena
1. Most missions will be given an approximate number of days that it will take place in game. This is typically placed in the mission description and will be announced at the start of a mission. Usually a smull chunk of time is open at a time for posting in to keep the timeline relatively in order. For example, days 1-3 might be open out of a 20 day mission Time reference is done as MDx, time in 24 hours. Example, MD1, 09:00.
2. Posts are done in past tense. Bob said, "Yes" versus Bob says, "Yes".
3. Talking is represented by standard quotation marks. Mary exclaimed, "NO!"
4. Thinking to oneself is represented by single quotes. 'That's odd', the security officer thought.
5. Telepathic communication is represented by the tilde. ~The next card will be an ace of spades~, Jonas telepathically thought to his sister.
6. Out of character notation. Sometimes we all have questions in a post or want to float an idea that is coming from us as a player and not as a character. Before writing the bit, put an OOC: Example, OOC: I love eating popcorn while watching Wrath of Khan.
7. If you need input from a person, put it in the form of *Tag* Tom, Jerry, Daffy. It is important when you go into a post that you look for any tags addressed to you to keep things going. Also, if someone you tagged hasn't replied in a while, do feel free to put a polite OOC note at the bottom of the post or send a dm.
8. The sim is rated 18+, but that is not so we write a bloody, porn, slasher movie. It is so some more adult situations. Always remember to keep things tasteful and respectful. Always work with the person/people you are writing with just to make sure you don't go too far with a topic.
9. Spellcheck as much as possible.
If you have any questions, please reach out to the Captain or XO.
