Round Three... Ding

532 words; about a 3 minute read

Mission: Things Past
Location: transport ship
Timeline: prior to arrival at the Athena

Eimi and Hurin followed the rest of the transports passengers into the designated area. It was simply a huge room with tables, chairs and along one side bunks of sorts or hammocks.

"Out the door and head right. At the end of the corridor is the Mess. Latrines and showers are located out that door across the cooridor." The crewman of the transport pointed to the right of the door they entered. "The Mess normally has some sort of of hot beverage Cookie calls coffee. It will keep you up for hours."

One of the other Federation officers raised a hand and at the Crewman's nod asked "Are we able to walk and explore the transport at all?"

The crewman replied "We prefer that you stay here or the Mess." The Federation officer scowled for a long moment in response "However the Captain is allowing a tour of the bridge among other non-restricted areas that will occur one hour from now if you would like to partake in that it will allow for stretching of your legs." the officers scowl lessened

Hurin turned to look at Eimi "I woooould, preeeferr... to sttttaaay here." Eimi nodded and noted that Hurins slow speech had returned.

"I will stay as well. Would you like to stay in this space or the Mess, Hurin?" Eimi had been on transport ships before, in fact more then one as Crew. It was not that exciting. This one must have taken on many transports of personnel because they made accommodations for them. Unusual. But still, this space was an improvement over a closet with four beds in it or a hammock. Eimi did however still find space extremely cold. She always had.

Heeerre is acceptable." Hurin replied as most of their fellow roomies moved to follow the transports crew member.

Eimi nodded and pushed her chin at a table off by itself in a quieter space. "That one I think will work best. Yes?" Her tone queried as she walked over to it and set her bag down. "I will get a mug of whatever hot beverage they have an available. Would you like one?"

Huron shook his head in a negative fashion and had opened his bag and took out a box of sorts. "I will seeeet the game uppp." Eimi nodded and spoke at the same time "Right. Be back shortly."

Eimi moved off and slipped out the door that then closed behind her with a grinding, jerky sound.

With what Cookie called coffee, but looked more like sludge, in hand and a snack of a few semi-burnt cookies. Eimi returned to the space where Hurin had the table set up. The game of dominos was simple, but complex. A semi-delightful game of random drawing luck and Eimi herself actually won a round or two and Hurin and his slow drawn out speech settled into a soft lumbering, rolling set of words and less nervousness. Time past quickly with the game and with her time spent updating the small program for her previous Chief. Before long she stood at the Starbase and looked out one of the many view ports where the USS Athena had been docked.
