Mission: Rescue Interruptus
Location: Outside The Briefing Room

Outside the briefing room, Mundy headed towards the Intel chief to introduce himself. He walked up to her. "Excuse me. I'm Lieutenant Bryan Mundy, the ship's new chief of security. I wanted to introduce myself since you are the Intel chief and, in the future, we might find ourselves working together."

"Yes, that's what the captain said. How familiar are you with the groups we're to look for?" She would do some research of her own on the types of criminals they'd find on the planet, but she might as well start by asking him outright.

"Just that the asteroid hit one of the larger northern cities. Otherwise, we need to wait for more intel. What have you heard?"

"I haven't looked into it yet," Scion replied. "But I plan on spending the next two hours seeing what I can find." She had a good idea where to start looking, but she'd need to get to her office first.

"If we work together, we may be able to cut that to a few hours instead of several hours, if you are okay with that." Mundy replied.

"True. That will allow us to do a wider search, which will be helpful. I plan on looking into the types of crime the colony usually deals with," Scion admitted. "We should find out what law enforcement is currently doing so we can check other areas. You're in a better position to find that information than I am."

Mundy nodded. "I'd be happy to help in whatever capacity you need."

"I also hope to research the best places to find illegal activity," she said. "If you could learn the laws, that will let us know what we can do and where we need to be careful. Both will take time and, as you said, splitting the work will give us a better chance of success."

Mundy moved to a console and logged in. "I'll start researching local laws and what passes for security on the planet."

"Great. I don't know how well law enforcement will be able to do their jobs. They may be helping find survivors and secure areas." She paused before adding. "Lieutenant, I grew up on the other side of the law, so I'm more familiar with what the criminal element may be doing. If nothing else, I'll recognize the signs of their activity. I'm good at that, but not as good at being the law. I think if we both work to our strengths, we'll make a good team." As she'd only just met Mundy, she had no idea if he could blend in or not. But even if he stood out like a cop, he could be a lot of help in following the captain's orders.

"I agree that we might make a good team, and you growing up on the wrong side of justice doesn't matter now. We have a job to do, and I think we will do well. We'll try to stop those breaking the law by taking them into custody. If they resist, then we will use our weapons to stop them. But if we have to kill to preserve life, then so be it." Mundy responded.

Scion wasn't so sure about taking lives. She'd always found ways to get around situations without causing serious harm. However, she would follow the captain's orders, which said they were to turn most of them over to local officials. "Let's see what the planetary laws are first, then see what we find on the planet. How long do you think you'll need to gather the information?"

"We'll have to tap into the planet's data base first, so probably 10 minutes, unless the system is off line, then it might take longer." Mundy responded.

"Okay. Mine is likely to take the full two hours, as I'm not sure how many sources I'll need to search. Let's meet just before we jump into slipstream." Scion raised an eyebrow. "Where do you want to meet?"

"It hasn't been decided, as far as I know, if we're going in uniform, or if we dress like the locals to fit in. I'm okay either way." replied Mundy.

"I'm going local," Scion said. She'd already made her mind up that she wasn't going to stand out. It would be almost impossible to find out what was really going on if the people they were supposed to watch for disappeared at the sight of a Starfleet uniform. "I want to blend in as much as possible while we're down there." That would also be part of her research.

"Then local it is." Mundy had the computer create native clothing for the mission.

"I'll meet you in two hours. I need to check some stuff in my office," Scion said. She wanted to use the intel computer to get information on the planet and find the best outfit for this assignment.

"See you then." When she left, Mundy selected weapons for the assignment, a hand phaser, some power packs and two combat knives. After that, he checked with the computer to select appropriate clothes for the mission.

When he was finished, he checked the long range scans of the planet, trying to select the safest place to beam down.

Meanwhile, Scion checked the intel database, along with some of her old sources to find the best places to learn about the illegal activity on the planet and to get maps of the city to transfer to her PADD. She'd know where to go from there.

Then, when it was almost time for the ship to depart, she replicated clothing to fit in with the lower classes, added her belt knife, a bracelet that could be used as a garotte, and went to meet Mundy.
